Small Business Administration
The 8(a) Business Development program is a federal contracting and training program authorized by Sections 7(j)(10) and 8(a) of the Small Business Act for experienced small business owners who are socially and economically disadvantaged. Businesses that participate in the program receive training and technical assistance designed to strengthen their ability to compete effectively in the American economy.

The Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) administers the Cannabis Equity Grants Program for Local Jurisdictions to aid local equity program efforts to support equity applicants and equity licensees. Offering technical support, regulatory compliance assistance, and assistance with securing the capital necessary to begin a business will further the stated intent of the AUMA by reducing barriers to entry into the regulated cannabis industry.

The Texas CHIPS Act established the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium (TSIC) and the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) to leverage Texas’ investments in the semiconductor industry, encourage semiconductor-related companies to expand in the state, further develop the expertise and capacity of Texas institutions of higher education, and maintain the state’s position as the nation’s leader in semiconductor manufacturing. The Texas CHIPS Office is a division within the Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office created to provide support to the TSIC and assist in the administration of the TSIF.

Small Business Investment Companies (SBICs) are privately owned companies that are licensed and regulated by the SBA. SBICs invest in small businesses in the form of debt and equity. The SBA doesn’t invest directly into small businesses, but it does provide funding to qualified SBICs, who then use their private funds, along with SBA-guaranteed funding, to invest in small businesses.
Homeowners may apply for up to $500,000 to replace or repair their primary residence. Renters and homeowners may borrow up to $100,000 to replace or repair personal property damaged or destroyed in a disaster. These loans cover disaster losses not fully covered by insurance or other sources.
Small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, and most private nonprofit organizations located in a declared disaster area and which have suffered substantial economic injury may be eligible for an SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL). EIDL provides the necessary working capital to help small businesses impacted by a disaster survive until normal operations resume.
SBA provides loans to help eligible small businesses with operating expenses if they have an essential employee who is a military reservist called to active duty. The maximum Military Reservist Economic Injury Disaster Loan (MREIDL) amount is $2 million, but SBA has authority to waive the $2 million statutory limit if the business is a major source of employment.
